Hard vs Soft balance suspension

July 20, 2021

We are often asked what the difference is between hard and soft suspension.

A hard suspensions natural frequency (cpm) is higher than the balancing speed (rpm) of the part. The results are linear irrespective of balancing speed or part mass and this allows for permanent calibration – we only need to calibrate once using a test rotor, and then all that is needed is the dimensions of the planes to be added in the software.

A soft suspensions natural frequency is lower than the balancing speed of the part. The results are speed and mass dependant and therefore you need to calibrate the first part of each variant. The calibration factors for each variant are stored in the software and recalled the next time the job file is selected.
