Universal Balancing Showcases Latest Technology at IMTS 2004

New High Precision Component Balancing System to be Demonstrated at IMTS 2004.

BTD-UNI 44, Universal Balancing’s latest generation of high speed, high precision component dynamic balancing equipment, will be showcased for the first time in the United States on Booth

D-4407 at IMTS 2004; which takes place in Chicago between 5th-8th September.

Utilising demodulated sine wave technology and latest touch screen Windows-based operation, Universal’s BTD-UNI 44 balancing equipment is ideal for static or dynamic, high or low speed, hard or soft bearing applications - including critical Moment of Inertia determination on assemblies weighing up to several hundred kilograms.

The new system will be demonstrated supporting four independent channel inputs, enabling it to achieve accurate balancing of even complex components such as multi-element propshaft assemblies.  High capability software, backed by the BTD-UNI 44’s simple and robust industrial PC controller, also allows the equipment to deliver cycle time savings of up to 50% on most balancing operations.

Simple operation is assured through an intuitive, touch screen interface with pop-up menus and easy-to-follow screen prompts.  During the automatic balance cycle, the component is spun to a pre-set speed, before the system provides a ‘real time’ readout of the amount and angle of unbalance in both polar and digital formats.

On fully-automatic machines, the component is braked before being indexed to the correct position for manual, semi or fully-automatic milling, drilling or welding material compensation.  On manual systems, an encoder tracking system rotates the polar display as the component is turned to the required balance correction position, which is highlighted on-screen.

All results can be output as a hard copy certificate of conformance or transferred directly to industry-standard SPC or other Windows-compatible spreadsheets and reporting software.  Modem support is also offered as standard on the new system, enabling remote operation and an off-site diagnostics capability.

Further examples from the Universal Balancing range to be exhibited at IMTS include hard or soft bearing, vertical and horizontal axis dynamic balancing equipment.  In addition, the company will highlight its ability to design, manufacture and install custom-engineered balancing systems to meet users’ individual production requirements.
